Nancy J. Ori is respected internationally as an industrial photographer and video producer for New
Jersey Media Center, LLC in Berkeley Heights, NJ. She is also a fine art exhibitor and enjoys teaching at
photography workshops each year throughout the US and Europe. Ms Ori has been affiliated for many years
with the Ansel Adams Workshop in California, the University of California Photography Workshop in Santa Fe,
NM and is on the faculty of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit, NJ; Peters Valley Craft Education
Center in Layton, NJ; Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ; Somerset Art Association in Bedminster, NJ; and the
Watchung Hills Adult School in Warren, NJ. In 1990, she founded the New Jersey Heritage Workshops held
annually in Cape May for photographers and other fine artists and in 1995 founded
the NJ Photography Forum and later the Digital Arts Group (DAG) at the Visual Arts Center of NJ for serious
photographers interested in exhibiting their work and advancing their skills.

- April 23 – 27 Creative Landscape and Architecture Photography with Nancy Ori. All levels. Includes narrated historic walking tour, discussions, demonstrations on characteristics of lighting, working in the landscape, getting a good exposure, camera controls for film and digital. Learn to compose and think creatively to capture new images for a portfolio of Cape May. 4/23, 2PM with wine & cheese reception & ends Sun., 4/27 at 12. $395.
- April 23 – 27 Photographic Projects & the Business of Art with Ricardo Barros. Identifying one’s own voice; Developing a body of work; Sharing one’s photographs; Hone observational skills. With guided discussions, explore the nature of photographic projects, define project parameters appropriate to your interests, grow existing projects. Explore opportunities to beef up credentials, strategies to land exhibitions, pricing images & publishing. An ambitious workshop for serious photographers ready to make a commitment to focus efforts & identify tools necessary to address personal objectives. $450.
- April 27-30 Digital Photography for the Studio Painter with Nancy Ori, Learn how to work your digital camera and make great images to paint from. Covered: basic digital camera controls and how they relate to lighting, getting the correct exposure, getting good color and composition. Learn how to shoot your paintings to enter a juried show or deliver images of your new paintings to a gallery with a CD submission. Also: shooting close ups for texture details and still lifes, getting proper color, creating slides from digital photos of your paintings, loading images onto your computer, simple manipulating and editing images. Laptops would be very helpful but not mandatory. Begins Sunday, April 27 with a wine and cheese reception and ends Wed, April 30 at noon. $295
- April 30 – May 4 Cape May Masters Photography Workshop with Chip Forelli,
Intermediate/advanced. Lots of one-on-one time. Day shoots in town & along shoreline, on-location discussions, critiques & demo of metering, filtering & shooting techniques. Laptops for digital and overnight C-41 processing allow for critique sessions of digital & film images created during the workshop including demo of simple PhotoShop® techniques on your images. Exciting standing-room-only evening sessions with Ori & Forelli. Begins 4/30, 2pm with wine & cheese reception, ends 5/4 at noon. $450.
- May 4-7 Getting Up To Speed With Photoshop and Lightroom with Don Polzo,
Shooting on location, projected demonstrations and printing. Students need a laptop with either Elements 4 or 5, CS2 or CS3 & Lightroom. Daytime shooting, learn manipulation workflow and printing techniques. Epson Pro3800 printer will be handy. Everyone should go home with at least one 16X20 print. Students should have some Photoshop experience. Begins Sunday, May 4 at 2pm with wine and cheese reception and ends on Wednesday, May 7 at noon. $295.
- May 7 - May 10 Creative Lighting Techniques with Patrick Connor.
. Explore lighting, the key to a successful image, as a form of creative expression. Portraits, still-life & products will be photographed on location with electronic flash, available light & tungsten light. Learn how to use all the tricks of a professional photographer. Discussions on use of lighting to create a cohesive composition to transform an ordinary image into something visually stunning. Photo excursions daily to local landscape for demonstrations and to the Cape May Winery for a real location shoot. Critiques and portfolio presentations. Tap into the expertise of a professional photographer & Macintosh® expert. All levels, film or digital, begins 5/7 at 2PM, ends 5/10 at noon. $350.
- May 7 – 10 Photographing People and Places with Harvey Stein. Harvey will provide insights into photographing people, the landscapes and architecture. Through location shoots, in depth discussions, slide presentations, critiques & portfolio reviews, students will make images that attempt to capture the heart and soul of their subjects, whether animate, inanimate, or the environment. Evening sessions include presentations by Stein and Ori as well as critiques of work produced during the workshop. All levels digital or film. Begins 3/7 at 2pm with wine and cheese reception and ends 3/10 at noon. $350.
Painting and Drawing
- April 23 – 27 Capture Cape May in Watercolor with Lito David Master the use of a relatively new technique called pouring, where colors are poured on the surface of wet paper. The artist controls the flow of the color by tilting the paper. The result is luminous, transparent and free-flowing. Dispel the usual “fear of overwork”. Other watercolor techniques will also be demonstrated to give each participant a good balance between basic techniques, important tips and inspiration. Begins Wed, April 23 at 2pm with wine & cheese reception & ends Sunday, April 27 at noon. All levels. $395
- April 27 – 30 Sketching as a Route to Art with Lorraine Niemela. Lorraine will help you to explore and utilize previous knowledge of drawing & painting in innovative ways. Line, color, value & personal ways of seeing are the ingredients. “Interests in nature, history and philosophy are woven into my painting and teaching. My teaching is clear & methodical in drawing & watercolor so students can actively pursue creativity. My style combines concrete skills with inspiration so that students leave with greater craft as an artist & the desire to make time for art.” All levels. $295 includes some materials.

- April 30 – May 4 Pastels on Location with Christina Debarry. All levels, lots of individual attention. Overview of drawing basics, discussions, critiques and demonstrations throughout the workshop on materials and techniques with the landscape, marsh, dunes and skies. Casual, with a focus on sharing as many techniques & tips as possible along with all sources for your materials. Our schedule will be flexible enough to support your creativity. Evening group discussions & presentations by Debarry &Ori. Held during spring in full regalia. Begins Wednesday, April 30 at 2pm with wine & cheese reception & ends, Sunday May 4 at noon. $395
- May 4-7 Watercolor with Mark deMos, Learn to create realistic watercolors by building loose layers of variegated washes & then finishing with detail to tighten up toward realism. Work with fluid motion and balance utilizing textures, values and color. Includes lots of individual attention and critiques to develop personal style and boost skills. Demos with various techniques including: the use of heavy sediment colors to create interesting textures & how to create the center of interest through values and use of complimentary colors. Begins Sunday, May 4 with wine & cheese reception at 2pm & ends Wed, May 7 at noon. All levels. $295
- May 7 – 10 Oil Painting in the Landscape with Gerry Heydt. This oil painting workshop includes on-site demonstrations, lots of one-on-one instruction, daily critiques & practical information on equipment & procedures to optimize the outdoor painting experience. Painting sessions are held in historic and natural areas. Emphasis on translating the essence & individuality of a landscape through observation and a structured approach: simplifying & drawing in the composition, blocking in color values, and adding important details. Begins on Wed, May 7 at 2pm with wine and cheese reception & ends on Sat, May 10 at 5 pm. All levels. $350.
