Join Nancy for a fun day of learning how to work in this creative and forgiving wax medium. Students will learn to layer their photographs with exciting and simple mixed media techniques to create new work with incredible diversity from any current portfolio.
There will be a presentation demonstrating several key techniques, a discussion of the photo encaustic process with examples from contemporary photo artists, and a look at how abstraction, composition, design and wax can create amazing new pieces with your photographs, paintings or drawings.
There will be time to look at your images and make suggestions on how to use them with the encaustic process & what additional collage materials you may want to collect to compliment your images. There will be a plenty of time for hands-on practice of the techniques. Expect to leave with an inspired imagination and at least one finished work. All necessary wax, colors, equipment, & tools will be supplied to get you started. A comprehensive handout will be supplied to inspire you after the workshop. No previous art experience is necessary. This workshop is for any level of artist with emphasis on beginners.
Encaustic painting, known as hot wax painting, uses melted wax to hold photographs & collage materials while building layers, or it can simply cover a mounted photograph for a unique presentation.
New Jersey Media Center LLC is a provider of Professional Development Certification credit hours for NJ teachers and will issue a certificate at the completion of the workshop upon request.
