Gerry Heydt

Gerry Heydt is known for her atmospheric and boldly brushed plein aire and studio landscapes of New Jersey coastal and natural areas. Her work is widely exhibited and has been carried in numerous galleries in the tri state area. She has taught classes and workshops in studio and outdoor landscape painting, floral, still life, drawing and nocturnal painting for beginner to advanced students. She is currently on the faculty of The Visual Art Center of NJ in Summit.

Since 2002, Gerry has taught a plein aire oil painting workshop with Nancy Ori’s New Jersey Heritage Workshop Series in Cape May, NJ each spring. She has a BFA from Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., in fashion illustration, and an MFA from the Instituto Allende affiliated with the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, in drawing and printmaking. She began oil painting in 1987 with James McGinley at the Newark School of Fine & Industrial Arts, and continued with Sam Adoquei at the New York Academy of Figurative Art and the National Academy of Design in New York.
